Responsible for leading technology functions to enable business-capabilities and the strategic growth of Sammons Financial Group (SFG) member companies. Accountable for setting strategic IT direction to support multiple diverse business units and distribution channels. Operating in a matrix environment requires incumbent to possess above average strategic, analytical and communication skills.


Essential Functions:

  1. Provide leadership and oversight for all technology areas including applications, software development, data, infrastructure, architecture, IT risk and security, asset management, and end user devices.
  2. Create and maintain strong collaborative relationships to ensure alignment with major stakeholders on IT strategy and investments. Develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges, and opportunities.
  3. Accountable for governance and demand management system that fosters collaboration between IT and the business units, optimizing resource allocation and technology spend, with transparent communication and measurement of efficiency and effectiveness. 
  4. Accountability for ensuring that SFG has strong systems analysis and project management skills, and the ability to execute business critical projects. Maintain oversight of all IT projects, ensuring that commitments are properly planned, resourced, monitored, and reported.
  5. Provide thought-leadership and vision regarding IT modernization balancing investments in legacy technology and core operating functionality, while investing for the future to enable digital transformation and the agility to respond to evolving customer-facing business requirements.
  6. Proactively advise the company on emerging technology and digital trends that are relevant to the company’s business initiatives and evolving needs.
  7. Accountable for ongoing governance and oversight of multiple vendor and sourcing relationships for information technology roles and resources. Negotiate and manage vendor relationships in order to ensure acceptable service levels as well as influencing future enhancements of application and software functionality.
  8. Manage department expenses, both direct and capital, to align with Sammons Financial Group goals. Lead others to implement solutions that deliver both a favorable economic benefit to Sammons as well as improved customer experience.
  9. Promote employee engagement and professional development while providing oversight to the Performance Management program to include appropriate goals, distribution of ratings and suitable recognition for advancement. Provide timely feedback and coaching to direct reports to improve development and overall performance of the team.
  10. Drive and reinforce commitment to internal controls processes such as those under Model Audit Rule and Record Information Management.
  11. As stated within the Company Attendance and Punctuality policy, regular attendance is required and expected in order to meet the business service levels and workflow demands.
  12. All other functions as assigned by the President, Shared Services and members of the Executive Committee.



  • Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science preferred) with multiple years of experience at mid to senior level management positions
  • Master’s degree with technology as a core component preferred or equivalent work experiences
    • Minimum 10 years’ applicable experience leading and/or directing a sizeable and representative IT planning, application development and/or infrastructure organization
    • Demonstrated consistent leadership effectiveness in technology and business related strategic planning, operations, implementation delivery and overall IT capability (people, process, technology) development
    • Demonstrated exposure to systems management, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems, vendor management, including management of offshore/near shore resources with keen awareness of technology and related business trends; proven experience and ability in managing systems complexity with positive outcomes
    • Keen working knowledge of applicable industry laws and regulations as they relate to IT
    • Strong, established leadership track record of human capital management principles, practices, and procedures
    • Demonstrated strong negotiating and influence leadership skills
    • Demonstrated ability to present and adapt ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
    • Experience in strategic planning and execution
    • Experience in formulating policy, and developing and implementing new procedures
  • Must embrace and effectively shadow the corporate shared values
    • Effective leadership, management, decision-making and motivational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-company/multi-site environment
    • Excellent professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
