What you can expect as the Director, Agency Services

This person will provide leadership and guidance to management team and technical staff in Agency Services. Ensure efficient and accurate service for all Agency Services functions occurring from receipt of agent contract application through payment of commissions.


Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the management of workflow for multiple unique distribution channels ensuring that service standards are met. This includes but is not limited to: agent appointments, inbound and outbound telephone calls, contract hierarchy changes and issues, commission issues, follow-ups on outstanding requirements, quality assurance, and handling of miscellaneous mail.
  • Develop, mentor, and train management and technical staff to provide high quality service to agency field force and internal departments. Provide timely, constructive, and honest feedback to employees regarding progress, strengths, and areas for development.
  • Partner with managers to establish departmental goals, objectives and monitor progress toward meeting or exceeding corporate goals for performance and quality.
  • Expected to promote teamwork and allocate resources to ensure that the entire Agency team is consistently meeting service level agreements regardless of distribution channel.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of our products and services, computer systems, and business processes in relation to Life, Annuity and SRS product offerings.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with Life, Annuity and SRS business units to understand their strategic objectives, align Agency resources to their strategy, and proactively ensure internal customers are satisfied. Analyze data and make recommendations to business units regarding administrative issues.
  • Evaluate, negotiate and manage vendor relationships to ensure maximum value is achieved for Agency Services and SFG.
  • Attend and present on Agency related topics at onsite and offsite meetings with external customers, peer companies and vendors.
  • Ensure Agency maintains compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Monitor regulation changes and update policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Manage the departmental budgets for Agency Services; act as good steward of approved budget dollars by meeting or staying below expense targets.
  • Attend industry conferences and compliance summits when applicable to maintain insurance knowledge and develop peer company network connections.
  • Lead Agency projects (including those not initiated by Agency) by working with IT to prioritize requests, sponsor initiatives, garner support and focus resources to successful implementation.
  • Utilize training team to maintain internal procedures that comply with current state insurance and government regulations.
  • Ensure Agency team identifies, implements, and assists with documentation of process and procedure improvements/controls; identifies key procedures needed to improve quality and efficiency; documents and identifies training issues to improve the overall performance of the team.
  • Craft business solutions for handling fluctuations in Agency volume; monitor workflow, and analyze and resolve backlog situations so that high volume periods of work go smoothly.
  • Maintain internal procedures that comply with current state insurance and federal (e.g. FINRA, SEC and IRS) regulations.
  • Drive and reinforce commitment to internal controls processes such as those under Model Audit Rule and Record Information Management.
  • Identify high-potential employees and provide development and growth opportunities for them.
  • Monitor, understand, and communicate needs, concerns, suggested changes, and workflow challenges with the team(s) and/or management consistently and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for consistently training and developing individuals in Manager and Team Leader roles on employee development, performance evaluations, and Corrective Action situations.
  • Handle special projects when necessary.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business or insurance
  • Minimum 5 years' leadership experience; annuity or life experience preferred
  • experience in annuity or life insurance
  • Proven ability to build strong internal and external partnerships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced organization skills with ability to focus on appropriate details
  • Facilitation and negotiation skills
