Here's what you can expect as the Business Project Manager.

You will provide business project leadership (scope development, prioritization, tracking, and testing) for small to medium assigned projects as they relate to or impact Shared Services. Serve as the liaison between the leadership team and the scrum or project teams to ensure the strategy and vision are effectively communicated and considered in the design of each project. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (internal or sourced employees) from the ideation stage all the way through implementation to meet the value intent sought by each project or initiative. Must be adept at change management and leading impacted teams through changes with detailed communications plans and fully documented business procedures and training. Also, ensures project adheres to scope, schedule and budget, by collaborating with Epic Owners, the Portfolio Team, and impacted Stakeholders to negotiate Scope vs Schedule trade-off decisions.

  1. Actively manage the organization, development and successful (timing and ROI) execution of project initiatives.
  2. Partner with leadership team to define project/initiative vision and strategy.
  3. Communicate the vision and strategy to the development and implementation teams to ensure the final project is built in alignment with the strategy.
  4. Drive the development of new functionality, from small features to entirely new tools or systems.
  5. Understand the project, markets and customers in order to represent the business/stakeholders and act as the key business/stakeholder decision maker with regard to assigned Agile teams.
  6. Continually analyze project team’s strengths and areas needing improvement to influence the Solution Team leadership to strive for continuous improvement.
  7. Take ownership of project requirements and ensure downstream teams, customers and impacts are considered.
  8. Actively manage the project backlog, bringing clarity to teams as they deliver solutions to realize the value intent, coordinating adjustments with the program and portfolio team as needed to mitigate risk and ensure strategic initiative’s success.
  9. Lead and/or participate in in-take meetings, refinement work sessions, planning events, daily stand-ups and iteration.
  10. Lead small to medium projects.
  11. Review/Demo ceremonies with IT, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  12. Frequently coordinate prioritization alignment with key stakeholders as part of the in-take and refinement of new work submissions to the Project Backlog.
  13. Regularly assesses features and costs and determines whether and when to proceed. Is responsible for accepting or rejecting project deliverables.
  14. Recommend MVP (minimum viable project) and process changes to key stakeholders and project team for prioritization. 
  15. Work with Program and Portfolio cross functional teams to guarantee pre- and post-implementation of project requirements that satisfy customer needs and policy standards while also remaining compliant with state and federal regulations.
  16. Collaborate with the Training Team to ensure (plan, organize and execute) training relating to program rollouts (i.e. system changes, procedure modifications) are delivered at the appropriate time and effectively prepare the department for the changes. Optimize communication to ensure effective knowledge transfer and handoffs are completed with departments impacted.
  17. Assure the quality of project outputs so that they conform to agreed-upon requirements.
  18. Where applicable, coordinate efforts between Agile and other project/project teams to align timing of deliverables.
  19. Perform trend analysis on program, project and team statistics and provide insight into variances.
  20. Continuously cast a positive shadow and serve as a professional role model.
  21. Execute great listening skills and have the ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal form.



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3 years’ business knowledge required (previous life and/or annuity experience)
  • Ability to coordinate and influence prioritization of multiple organizational priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to oversee cross-site, cross-functional teams
