Provide project and program management expertise, leading and managing the day-to-day operational aspects of large projects and programs.  Work independently and effectively apply project methodology and enforce project standards to successfully deliver the project on time and on budget. Accountable for effectively facilitating clear communications throughout the project organization.  Manage the project status, issues and risks throughout the entire project lifecycle.  May be responsible for coordinating the efforts of other project managers.  Experience with SDLC, vendor coordination/program management, waterfall, and agile methodologies.

 

Manage assigned projects:

Agile Projects/Programs - 

  • Ensures clear communication among everyone involved in the project. Ensures individuals within a project are self-organizing and does not rely on a command and control style. As part of the self-organizing team, the project manager will naturally be aware of how the team has self-organized and how they intend to complete the work.
  • Facilitates the work to manage scope and/or the backlog, prioritization of requirement and/or backlog items and tasks as well as the commitment to results based on agreed upon milestones.
  • Effectively removes impediments and shields the team from external interfaces
  • Facilitates team rituals/meetings as requested.

 

  1. Waterfall Projects/Programs -
    • Communicate project / program information and manage expectations, promoting a common understanding between team members and project stakeholders.
    • Lead the work to define and manage the scope, develop the project/program management plan, and identify and schedule all activities.  Merge multiple plans as needed to ensure all team members (internal/external) are working from a single source.
  • Drive the work based on the plan to accomplish the objectives, described within the scope statement.
  • Facilitate the identification, evaluation, and procurement of vendors providing solutions to help satisfy the expected project and program outcome and effectively manage the vendor relationships to maximize benefits.

 

Both methodologies -

  • Promote project, program, and portfolio management methodology at the enterprise level.
  • Remove ambiguity in roles and responsibilities by clearly mapping out activities against expected outcomes relative to time and budget. Identifies the interdependencies between deliverables and functional teams up front to better determine what teams should be more integrated and when, relative to the overall solution development process. 
  • Understands the intended outcomes of the project and ensures the outcomes are realistic and measurable. Collaborates with the team to define the scope of work, who is responsible for delivering it and when it will be delivered.  Specifically:
    • Deliverables required to complete all the project work
    • Cross-functional resource assignments
    • Estimates of effort to complete project deliverables resulting in work plans, iteration and release plans with schedules
    • Dependencies between team members and tasks
    • Facilitates change management including backlog maintenance, change of requirements and/or prioritization of scope and tasks as well as updates to release and work plans.
    • Facilitates tracking and reporting of program and project progress including the clear presentations of status, critical issues, and risks.
    • Facilitates the identification, mitigation, and documentation of risks ensuring the approach for how each will be managed is defined.
    • Facilitates the management of quality and the overall delivery process
    • Effectively facilitates the relationship and engagement with the project sponsor and/or product owner

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College graduate or equivalent and appropriate work experience (12+ years of project management and/or Agile Scrum experience and 5+ years with program management)
  • Financial Services/Insurance industry experience is a plus
  • Experience working in an Information Technology organization a plus
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Project Management Professional (PMP)  and/or Certified Scrum Master (CSM)  is a plus
